Hippie Habits: February Reading List

I have a feeling that 2017 is going be a big year for me, and truth be told it is already drastically different than 2016, in the best way possible. Not only have I discovered two lovely ladies (through the blogging world!) that I can only describe as ‘soul sisters’ ::cough Bre and Margaux cough:: I have started to get my adrenal and thyroid issues under control, and I have made a conscious effort to work on myself, find what I need, and give myself the space to just be.

I’ve always been a ‘busy’ person, to the detriment of relationships and myself. I’m a ‘take everything on, no matter what’ kind of personality and I’ve working on giving myself permission to to relax, to take a book into the bathtub and spend an hour not worrying about deadlines and stress, about my next market, or that thing the cute Lyft driver said that made me feel a little off kilter. And speaking of those bathtub books, I have been making my way through the beautiful stack of books hanging out on the top of my desk that I’ve been collecting through both purchases and gifts from publishers who appreciate when my hippie self shines through. These books have been some of my favorites!

Soul is a reoccurring theme in many of these books, because honestly, when you’re focusing on yourself and self love you’re trying to figure out what you really need and what you really want out of life- and soul is a big part of that.

The Soul Searchers Handbook This book is a wonderful intro guide to what many would term the ‘new age’ world. And while I’m quite well versed in many of the concepts- crystals, aromatherapy, philosophy- this book is a catch all for so many different healing modalities. It’s a modern hippie thesaurus!

The Ultimate Guide to Crystals and Stones If you’ve been following for a while you know that I am a crystal junkie (new to crystals? I have a beginner guide here!) and this book is a great way to expand your knowledge about the crystal world and how to use their energies for healing. There are charts and diagrams in here that make my very visual-learner self sing!

Adventures for Your Soul This is a quick read, perfect for a bubble bath, but while it is easy to fly through it is also incredibly insightful. With chapter names like ‘Be a Goal Digger,’ ‘Allow Awareness.’ and ‘Fear Detox’ there is so much information about someone looking to dive deeper into how they feel about themselves.

Ayurveda Lifestyle Wisdom If you’ve been around the yoga world for a while while now, you might have heard of Ayurveda, a yogic system of living based on natural balance. This book breaks down the mysteries of Ayurveda into easy to understand concepts and includes recipes, information on how to figure out your dosha (ayurvedic body type), and resource guides that are chock full of information- a must have for anyone interested in balancing their energetic body! Also, I am a total weirdo that loves the smell of some books- this printer definitely uses my favorite kind of paper!

Natural Antibiotics and Botanical Treatments The tagline of this book says ‘heal your body, heal your mind’ if that’s not the best intro I don’t know what would be! This book looks at your health holistically and uses natural means to affect change. It has sections on emotional ailments and breaks down herbal remedies and breaks down the reasons herbs can help heal with scientific backing!

Szen Zone This one is another quick read. With an easy-to-focus format that includes bullet points and short stories followed by action items, it breaks down concepts into easily digestible lessons. Also, Szenderski’s writing style is beautiful- simple but elegant.

Breathe Breathe is a book that focuses on just that. With clear instructions and diagrams, this books shows physical ways to implement change in your breathing, in posture, and ultimately how you feel mentally. One of my favorite parts about this book are the little blue side boxes that house tips (like modifications and vocabulary) as well as anecdotes from past program users.
