Elegant (But Easy!) Breakfast In Bed
As someone who runs their own business from home, I will sometimes spend whole days working from my ‘soft office’ aka my bed. It might be cold outside, I’m feeling lazy, or quite possibly (and most often) there’s a pile of stuff on my desk from the latest artisanal fair, delivery or something of the like that I just don’t want to move, so I snuggle up under the covers, grab a lap desk and cup of tea and hunker down to do some work.
Now, when you’re as messy as I am, generally speaking, eating in bed is a bad idea. However, sometimes exceptions have to be made especially when you feel like treating yourself and your breakfast ends up being ‘Instagram worthy’ because we all know that’s a thing! So, if you happen to stumble upon a box of Birch Benders’ new frozen waffles (in Sprouts’ freezer section!) grab them and make yourself the easiest breakfast in bed that is so beautiful to look at but so easy to make!
Now, Birch Benders’ waffles are made in Belgium, which we all know is the waffle capital of the world- I have most definitely consumed my weight in them while visiting, so when a family run- American company decided to work with the best waffle makers you *know* they’re going to be amazing! These little beauties toast in just minutes and come in Buttermilk, Homestyle, Paleo, and Protein varieties- I tasted all of them when Sprouts brought a few blogger friends over to Birch Bender’s HQ for a waffle ice cream sandwich party and ended up loving buttermilk the best, but they were all super tasty. So, when it comes to breakfast in bed, start out with a time-saving (but delicious!) base.
To add a touch of elegance to your waffles, drizzle with a bit of maple syrup and top with fresh berries. The syrup I am using here is made by a friend of mine, Shona, who runs Cowgirl Lemonade. It is pure maple syrup infused with lavender flower and is quite frankly the best syrup I have EVER tasted! I love supporting local companies (Birch Benders is one too!) so incorporating a few of my local favorites is a fun way to feel like I am doing some good while being a lazy bum in bed!
Next, the perfect cup of tea is important! To make breakfast in bed feel like an elegant affair, I like steeping a tea bag (this one is African Chai) and keeping some hot water on hand in a little teapot to refresh as I eat. Add a cloth napkin and some cutlery and arrange on a breakfast tray and you have a wonderful little set-up to start your day off right!
I love it when things are both beautiful and simply achieved- Birch Benders makes it easy to celebrate the waffle without having to fiddle with batter and an iron when you’re half awake in the morning. I’d love to know how do you make your daily rituals into something a bit more elegant? Let me know in the comments below!
