When it comes to St. Patrick’s Day most people think of four leaf clovers, wearing green, and a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. However fun those ideas might be they’re fleeting. Why not go green in a different way this Saint Patrick’s Day and help take care of the environment and save yourself some money to boot?! I’ve found that the easiest way to start going green is by starting in the kitchen!
1. A Reusable Basket For Shopping. I love baskets especially when spring and summer roll around and I can shop at the local farmer’s market with a sundress on and a basket in tow. Sturdier than your typical reusable bag, a basket is incredibly versatile. From the grocery store to a summertime picnic, a gorgeous basket is the way to go!
2. Go Bamboo! I love the weight and durability of bamboo utensils and cutting boards, and the environment will love you too. This fast growing plant is a wonderful renewable resource and readily available for many of your kitchen needs.
3. Stainless Steel Straws. I love my reusable straws. Gone are the days of complaining that there is only one straw left in the box! With stainless steel straws you can pop them in the dishwasher or use a brush for a never ending supply! Also, I love how cold they keep your drink as you sip!
4. Go All Natural. I don’t want chemicals to touch anything I’m eating from. Companies like Seventh Generation have lots of products that lack chemicals harmful for the earth (and you!). This natural dish liquid is my favorite; it cuts grease and smells wonderful!
5. Grow Your Own. Gone are the days of drastically overpaying for fresh herbs. Grab a cute planter or two, plop it in a sunny spot and have fresh basil, thyme, and parsley for when you need it. Planting in a dinosaur is just an added bonus!
