When it comes to most things in life, my motto is ‘balance.’ That’s why you’re just as likely to find me with my pups climbing a mountain as you are to find me having grapefruit mimosas at brunch downtown. The great thing about Denver, is that not only does it facilitate balance with its many dualities, but it breeds it. Colorado is a state that wants you to have fun and work hard in a multitude of ways. And Boulder, CO based Boulder Canyon Authentic Foods is the embodiment of that- it’s the story of two friends who wanted to make a product a bit better for you, but without losing taste. And boy, did they succeed!
Now, generally speaking, I am not going to willy nilly talk about a brand of potato chips on the blog, because potato chips, quite frankly, aren’t exactly the most ‘hippie’ of snacks. But Boulder Canyon chips are different, they were crafted to satisfy your potato chip craving without filling you with the yards-long list of ingredients that go into the run of the mill brand. The ingredient lists are great, they’re kosher, gluten free, many varieties are vegan, and they have no trans fat or cholesterol to boot. But, the best thing about Boulder Canyon are the oils they’re cooked in.
Most potato chips make me feel sick, that uncomfortable brick in the bottom of your belly fullness that seems like it just doesn’t want to go away; but I have been known to down an entire bag of the Boulder Hickory BBQ chips and don’t blink an eye. And that’s down to the oils they are cooked in! Boulder uses a number of unique oils when it comes to potato chips- coconut oil, rice bran oil, avocado oil, and olive oil and each has its own benefits, but all of the chips have that hearty crunch I love and are jam-packed with flavor.
So, in the spirit of balance and my absolute love for BBQ flavored everything, if I’m in the mood for potato chips I grab a bag of healthier-for-you Boulder Canyon chips (seriously though, I’ve probably single handedly eaten a solid 10+ bags of the BBQ and the vinegar chips this year alone!) and head somewhere fun to snack away! Sometimes that somewhere is on a mountain pass, sometimes just reading a book at the park- yes, I am reading Shakespeare- one of my degrees is in English and I LOVE him) but always with a snack in hand and something to hydrate me. Today it is my favorite BBQ chips and matcha sun tea- balance, I say!
