Pumpkin Chia Dog Treats

It is a well known fact that I spoil my pups- these pumpkin chia dog treats are no exception. However, when I am handing out dog treats like Halloween candy, I always make sure that the treats have health benefits for the fluffs. Made from simple ingredients, these treats are tasty, perfect for the pumpkin-heavy autumn season, and have both of my dogs drooling whenever they spot me with one in hand!

The six ingredients in these treats (all of which I had sitting in my pantry!) are all great for dogs. Pumpkin (just pureed pumpkin- not the pie filling!) is wonderful for digestion and stomach issues, chia is another wonderful source of fiber, plus is high in omega fatty acids as well as calcium, iron, potassium, and zinc, peanut butter is a good source of protein and healthy fats, and I could go on! Overall these superfood treats will have your pup feeling healthy and happy!

Pumpkin Chia Dog Treats Ingredients

1 1/2 Cups Whole Wheat Flour

3 Add the flour, peanut butter, pumpkin, and egg into the chia mixture. Blend well. Depending on the strength of your processor you may need to turn out the dough and finish blending by hand until everything is incorporated.

4 Line your baking sheets with parchment paper and flour your work surface and rolling pin.

5 Working in batches, roll the treat dough into a uniform thickness. These treats will puff up a bit in the oven (don’t want the puff? Add holes with a fork), so you can keep the thickness on the thinner size!

6 Using cookie cutters (I used pumpkins and bones) cut out your treat shapes and place them on your lined cookie sheets.

7 Pop the cookies into the preheated oven for about 35 minutes or until cookies are nicely browned and hard to the touch.

8 Let cookies cool completely before giving them to your pups!

9 Enjoy! Also, because chia seeds can absorb so much water make sure that your pup has plenty of fresh water available!
