Hello Darlings!
I was sick of looking at the back of store-bought dog toothpaste and seeing ingredients that are a million letters long and you have absolutely no idea what on earth they are. This recipe is all natural, can be made with ingredients from your pantry, and takes just minutes! We treat ourselves to glorious organic, fresh products- why not our pups?
This recipe aims to make brushing your dog’s teeth an easier experience. No more pups trying to squirm away because you’re putting something not-so-pleasant in their mouths, instead this tastes good and the consistency is easy to brush with. Plus, the ingredients aren’t just for taste. Coconut oil is great for digestion and your pups’ gums, baking soda and cinnamon are gently abrasive to remove plaque from your dog’s teeth, mint and parsley are wonderful breath fresheners, and tea tree oil is anti-bacterial!
Instructions:
1. Pop all of the ingredients in a food processor. Combine well.
2. There is no second step. How awesome is that?
All you need is a pea-sized amount on a doggie toothbrush, brush away! Don’t forget the tongue! Make sure to watch the embedded video below to check out how I make it, with my pups looking on!

Hi when I made this I used dried herbs, left out the tea tree oil as it was impossible to find an edible oil cheaply, used beef stock cube, and mixed with a spoon.. yet the resulting toothpaste was brown, not green… did I do it right? Why was it Brown? Because of the dried herbs? Or because I left the tea tree oil out?
My dog also didn’t seem to like it…
Kait says
The dried herbs would make the toothpaste brown instead of green (because of how it mixes together.) Every dog’s tastes are different- my two fluffs like it, however, some dogs aren’t a fan of mint and some just HATE having their teeth brushed!

I have a question about your DIY All Natural Dog Toothpaste. How long will it keep in the refrigerator for?
Kait says
So this question is a but hard because it depends on a bunch of different factors. It has no preservatives (except the coconut oil) so it is a fresh product, so it won’t keep as long as traditional tooth paste, but I have used mine for up to about 3 weeks. You’ll notice that there will be white mold and an interesting, ‘off’ smell when it goes bad. One way to keep it fresh for longer is to make sure you don’t dip you dog’s toothbrush into the container to keep additional bacteria out- use a spoon to add a bit to the toothbrush!

I tried this recipe for my 11weeks old Samoyed Puppy and she liked it!! The only question I have is that after I put in in the refrigerator that toothpaste hardened. Do I need to defrost it a bit before using the toothpaste out from the refrigerator?
Kait says
Yep! You can warm it up with your hands or just take it out a bit before you’re going to use it to warm up to room temperature. Because you’re using coconut oil it will harden because of the oil!

Thanks for the reply! Another question is will it work as well if we freeze it into ice cubes and give it to our puppy to chew on like greenies? I think she likes the paste but is not familiar with the brush yet.

Is tea tree oil edible? On the label of my tea tree oil, it says “for external uses only”. Thanks 🙂
